2203 Brassica oleracea
50 days.
Scotch Kale was a vital food for European peasants; in Scotland, “kail” (kale) even meant dinner, and “kail-yards” were gardens.
Blue Curled Scotch was developed by the Virginia Truck Experiment Station (VATES) in 1950.
A very friendly kale, giving you green grins from the snow covered garden in December. Frilly, blue-green leaves are super nutritious, tasty and cold-hardy.
Compact plants, 12-15″ tall, with very productive leaf growth.
Interesting fact: while both are in the Brassica family, Blue Curled Scotch is actually a different genus than the Siberian/Russian varieties.
~800 seeds/packet
