Its roots trace back to “Amager Short-Stemmed” cabbage, developed by Dutch colonists on Amager Island near Copenhagen.
Introduced by Burpee in the U.S. in 1887, and that same year earning a $10 prize for John Nogle of Plymouth, Ohio, who grew a head weighing 15 lbs!
Large, round, dense heads (5-7 lbs, 7-8″) with blue-green outer leaves and a pale, crisp interior, heading up in late summer and holding strong as a reliable winter storage variety that’s hard to beat.
