1015 Phaseolus vulgaris
100 days for dry beans.
Cultivated by the Abenaki people since the 1700s, though first advertised in Fredericton, NB newspaper The Gazette in 1808.
A very productive pole bean that typically grows 6-8′ tall, requiring a sturdy trellis. Lilac flowers give way to pods yielding 6-7 cranberry-coloured beans each.
Creamy, nutty-rich flavour. Excellent in soups, chilis, salads, and baked dishes, holding its shape well during cooking.
